What Hip Hop Island is

Hip Hop Island is a discovery platform for independent and emerging hip hop artists around the world. It publishes artist profiles, lists and guides about underground scenes and the new voices shaping the culture from the ground up.

How artists are chosen

Hip Hop Island follows a curated, research-driven approach to discovering emerging hip-hop artists from around the world. Our selection process considers artistic originality, musical quality, lyrical identity, creative direction, and the potential to contribute something distinctive to the contemporary hip-hop landscape.

We explore independent scenes, emerging movements, and underrepresented voices to identify artists whose work demonstrates authenticity, ambition, and a clear artistic vision. Each selection reflects our editorial commitment to highlighting promising talent beyond mainstream recognition.

How we write artist profiles

Every profile we rebuild follows the same standard:

• Facts such as dates, releases and chart positions come from named sources, which are listed at the bottom of the profile.
• Links point to the artist’s official channels, where we can verify them.
• Each profile shows the date it was last reviewed and who edited it.
• We leave out details about private life and anything we cannot verify.

Some older profiles on the site do not yet meet this standard. They are being reviewed and rebuilt one by one.

Images and credits

We credit images to their source where it is known. If you are an artist, label, manager or photographer and would like an image credited differently or removed, please write to us and we will act on it.

Corrections and requests
