Who we are

Hip Hop Island (hiphopisland.com) is a website about emerging hip hop artists, edited and published by Hristo D. T.. If you have a question about this policy or about your personal data, write to hiphopislanddotcom@gmail.com.

What this policy covers

This policy explains what personal data is collected when you visit the site or contact us, why, who receives it, and what rights you have. We do not run a shop and we do not sell your personal data.

Data we collect and why

Messages you send us

If you use the contact form or email us, we receive your name, email address and message. We use them only to read and answer your message and, where needed, to act on a correction or image request. We keep messages for as long as needed to handle the matter, and normally delete them within two years.

Comments

Where comments are enabled, we store the name, email address, IP address, browser details and text you submit, so that we can display and moderate the comment. An anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture.

Visitor statistics

We measure how the site is used so that we can improve it. We use Jetpack Stats (Automattic Inc.) and, where enabled, Google Analytics (Google Ireland Ltd). These services may set cookies or similar identifiers and process your IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, referring site and approximate location. We use this information in aggregate and do not use it to identify you personally.

Advertising and site delivery

The site is funded by advertising. We work with Ezoic Inc., which provides ad placement, site analytics and performance services, and with its advertising partners. These parties may use cookies, device identifiers and your IP address to show ads, limit how often you see them, measure their performance and, where you consent, personalise them. Ezoic’s own policy is at ezoic.com/privacy-policy.

Where the law requires it, a consent banner provided through Ezoic lets you accept or refuse cookies and similar technologies that are not strictly necessary, and you can change your choice at any time through the privacy link or settings control shown on the site, or by clearing cookies in your browser. You can also opt out of personalised advertising at youronlinechoices.com (Europe) or optout.aboutads.info (US).

Newsletter

If you subscribe to our mailing list, we collect your email address (and name, if you give it) and process it through Mailchimp (Intuit Inc.) to send you updates. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in every email. We rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Embedded content and fonts

Artist pages show a featured YouTube video as a preview image loaded from YouTube’s image servers, which means your IP address is sent to Google when the page loads. The video player itself (served from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced domain, youtube-nocookie.com) loads only after you click play, and from then on YouTube may collect data about you under its own policy. Links to services such as Spotify and Apple Music only share data if you follow them. Our pages also load fonts from Google Fonts, which means your IP address is sent to Google when a page loads.

Technical and security data

Our web host and security tools log technical information, such as IP address, time of request and browser, to keep the site running and protect it against abuse.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored on your device. Besides the technical cookies WordPress needs to work, cookies on this site come from statistics, advertising and embedded-content providers described above. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, although parts of the site may then work less well.

Legal bases

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on: your consent (advertising and non-essential cookies, newsletter); our legitimate interests (running, securing and improving the site, measuring audience, answering messages); and, where relevant, compliance with legal obligations.

Who receives your data

Only the service providers named above and our web hosting provider, acting for us or on their own account as described in their policies. Some of them are based outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States; where this applies, transfers rely on safeguards such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

You can ask us for access to the personal data we hold about you, and for its correction, deletion, restriction or portability. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. Write to hiphopislanddotcom@gmail.com and we will reply within one month. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority, for example the Bulgarian Commission for Personal Data Protection (cpdp.bg).

Children

The site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.

Artists, labels and photographers

Hip Hop Island publishes information about artists drawn from public, named sources. If you are the person concerned, or you represent them, and you want information corrected or removed, or an image credited differently or taken down, write to hiphopislanddotcom@gmail.com.
