Dip Doundou Guiss is a Senegalese rapper with about fifteen years of career, known for rapping in Wolof and for rooting rap in Senegalese culture.
Background
Le Soleil describes Dip Doundou Guiss as a major figure in Senegalese rap. Earlier projects such as “Loo Ñeme Ñakk” and “LFLF” took him beyond Senegal, and his videos have passed 150 million views on YouTube. He has been named ambassador of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
Releases and milestones
After a few quieter years, he returned in 2026 with the four-track EP Mayko Loolou (Wolof for “offer it to him”), presented in Paris ahead of his concert at the Cabaret Sauvage on 8 August 2026. The EP blends hip-hop with mbalax and other local sounds, an approach he calls “Niogmanté”, while keeping what he describes as a real hip-hop identity. He plans further four-track releases every one or two months, and argues that Wolof can carry international music and that Senegal can become a hub for African rap.
Where to start
“NOGMANTE” connects directly to the blending approach he explains in the interview.
