Negros Tou Moria (Νέγρος του Μοριά) is a rapper from Athens who mixes rebetiko’s bouzouki and working-class folk roots with trap in a style he calls “trabetiko”.
Background
Born in Athens to Ghanaian parents and raised in Kypseli, he took his stage name from Geros tou Moria, a general of the 1821 Greek revolution, joining classic Greek identity with modern urban life. He runs his own label, Stay Independent, released his first mixtape in 2012, and was named Best New Artist at the Thessaloniki Hip Hop Festival in 2014.
Releases and milestones
His second album, H.E.A.L.T.H., came out in 2018. Mavri Ellada (“Black Greece”, 2025) takes on xenophobia, policing, economic hardship and second-generation identity, moving through G-funk, Afrobeats and trabetiko with a deeper baritone, according to Greek City Times. He is listed as an established artist since he has been active for over a decade.
Where to start
“GreeKs” (with Dennis Green) is a lively introduction to his sound.
