BLKD (Allen Jordan) is a Filipino battle rapper and hip-hop artist from Cavite, known for his technical, socially conscious writing in the FlipTop battle league and for the 2015 album Gatilyo, made with producer UMPH.
Background
BLKD joined the first FlipTop tryout in 2010. He did not reach the finals but earned a place on the league’s roster, and FlipTop lists him with the crews Reppin Uprising, Batch 1 and Outbox. The league credits him with popularising a technical, bar-heavy style among fans, and says he uses his battles to voice grievances against the government while still addressing his opponent. Among his battles are appearances against Fukuda (Ahon 10), Frooz (Bwelta Balentong 6) and Poison13 (Isabuhay 2019).
Releases
Gatilyo, a collaboration with UMPH, came out in September 2015. The Philippine Star called it a modern classic, praising its wordplay and its portrait of the hardships of ordinary Filipinos. He also appears on “Gunita” by KJah on the Uprising PH channel.
