Diana Drill is a masked rapper from Nottingham, England, who has released singles since 2020, including “Heartless” with Giggs (2022), and who performed for BBC Music Introducing at Glastonbury in 2023.
Background
In a 2021 LeftLion interview she described how music ran through her family, from her grandad’s Desmond Dekker records to her brother’s UB40 and dance records and her mum’s Queen. She started taking lyrics seriously at about 11, and names Roll Deep, Skepta, Giggs, Ghetts and Bashy as influences. She says she never planned to be an artist and that her brother pushed her towards music. She wears a mask to protect her privacy and to keep the focus on the music, not on her gender or appearance.
Releases
According to Apple Music’s catalogue, her first single, “Diana Drill”, came out in November 2020, followed by “Winning” (January 2021), “Diana Drill: Fire in the Booth” with Charlie Sloth (March 2021) and “Working on Me” (May 2021). “Heartless” with Giggs followed in June 2022 and “Stay In Your Lane” with Queen Millz in August 2022. Later singles include “Do To Me” (2023) with Mazza On The Track and “FLEX” with SmuggzyAce (2024).
