Lavida Loca

Lavida Loca is a rapper born in Malawi, raised in Nottingham and now based in South London, whose gritty, storytelling-led UK street rap blends drill with dancehall, pop, R&B and trap, with Spanish-language rhymes in the mix.

Background

Lavida Loca first drew attention in 2019 with “The King’s Back”, which spread online after she posted it on Snapchat and was picked up by blogs (Music Musings & Such, 2022). Trench covered her “No ID” video, released through Maximum Recordings, in October 2019, and in December 2019 she appeared on BBC Radio 1Xtra’s “Voice Of The Streets” freestyle series with Kenny Allstar.

Releases and milestones

Her tracks include “One Mic”, “2 Sides”, “I Been” (produced by Bayoz Muzik) and “On My”, and a 2021 Audiomack World interview, republished by DJBooth, describes her move from UK drill into dancehall, pop, R&B and trap. On Spotify she has about 7,900 monthly listeners, below the site’s usual threshold; she is included as a documented editorial exception.

Where to start

The featured video, “On My”, is a good introduction to her delivery; it is on the Mixtape Madness YouTube channel.
