Shaybo is a Nigerian-born, London-raised rapper known as “The Queen of the South”, who raps in English and Yoruba, signed to Black Butter Records and released the mixtape Queen of the South in August 2021.

Background

Shaybo grew up partly in Nigeria and moved to London at the age of six. She began making music around 14 or 15, and her 2011 “Shay’bo Freestyle” went viral and gave her her stage name. She released “Guess Who’s Back” in 2013, took a break, and returned in 2019, which brought her wider attention.

Releases

Her 2019–2021 singles include “Bonjour Cava” with Miss Lafamilia, “Ya Dun Know”, “Anger”, “Dobale” and “Broke Boyz” with DreamDoll. The mixtape Queen of the South (20 August 2021) includes “My Sister” with Jorja Smith and was reviewed by The Guardian; “Don’t Play Me” with NSG followed in November 2021.
