TIF (Toufik Bouhraoua) is an Algerian rapper based in France who blends rap with chaâbi and Andalusian music, singing in French and Arabic.
Background
TIF was born in Algiers and grew up near Bab-El-Oued; his stage name shortens a childhood nickname, “Tifou”. He moved to France at 18 and settled in Lyon. Scene Noise describes a sound that mixes rap, Andalusian music and traditional Algerian tunes, with melodic French verses over North African percussion and themes of homesickness and exile.
Releases and milestones
His debut track “3inya” came out in 2019, followed by the albums HOUMA SWEET HOUMA (2022) and 1.6 (late 2023), which passed 1.6 million streams in its first month. In May 2024 he performed the unreleased “Nothing Personal” on COLORS and dedicated it to Palestine; Algerie360 reports 195,000 YouTube views in two days.
Where to start
The COLORS performance of “Nothing Personal” is the quickest way into his sound.
