Morobeats is an independent hip hop collective and label from Mindanao in the Philippines, known for direct, socially engaged rap in Filipino.
Background
Morobeats was founded in 2014 by the producer DJ Medmessiah and represents the Zamboanga and wider Mindanao scene, working with a rotating roster of rappers that includes JMara, Prophecee and the H20 Klann crew. The collective says hip hop should speak directly about injustice, and draws on conflict, poverty and neglect in Mindanao.
Releases and milestones
“Anak Ka ng Pu!”, an anthem against corruption, was performed by the collective at the Baha sa Luneta rally in Manila on 21 September 2025, with a video of the performance widely shared online (MindaNews). “Teritoryo” addresses fisherfolk and maritime rights in the West Philippine Sea. “Gubat ng Siyudad” won Hip-Hop Song of the Year at the first Filipino Music Awards, held on 21 October 2025 (Billboard Philippines).
Where to start
“Sabik sa Trono” by Kambal ng Morobeats, produced by DJ Medmessiah, is their most-played track on Spotify and a direct introduction to the roster.
