Wampi is a Cuban singer, saxophonist and producer from Havana and one of the leading figures of reparto, Cuba’s street-music movement.
Background
Wampi grew up in Arroyo Naranjo, began making music at 15 and trained as a saxophonist at the Paulita Concepción school in Havana. His style mixes reparto with Brazilian funk, salsa and soul/R&B, and he sees himself as a musician rather than only an urban artist.
Releases and milestones
His first album, El Rey de La Habana (October 2025, Virgin Music Group), has 13 tracks with guests including Los Van Van, Cimafunk, Leoni Torres, Ibeyi and Adonis MC. “Chacha” made him the first reparto artist to record with Los Van Van, “La Última” topped Billboard’s New Latin Music poll, and “Rica y To’” passed 2 million YouTube views in its first weeks. He is also reported as the first reparto artist to become a voting member of the Recording Academy, and Billboard included him in its 2026 Latin artists to watch.
Where to start
“Rica y To’” is the most popular entry point to the album.
