Gonaboy is a Ghanaian rapper who rose from the underground trap scene and blends it with highlife.
Background
Music In Africa says Gonaboy rose to prominence in 2022 with “Abom”, which moved him from Ghana’s underground trap scene to mainstream recognition; he has drawn endorsements from artists such as Black Sherif. His themes centre on resilience and self-determination, and his newer work is more reflective.
Releases and milestones
He released the collaborative EP Trap Saviors (2024) with ACE ILLY and Kojo Trilla, then the solo project MUNIRU, which he describes as a personal journey of growth and self-awareness. He was featured on Apple Music’s Rap Life Radio and named in Apple Music’s Africa Rising class of 2026.
Where to start
“SAME TIMBS” is a good entry point to MUNIRU.
